Cooper became the ‘Godfather of Shock Rock’ when a chicken accidentally wandered up onto stage and he picked it up and threw it out over the audience thinking it would fly. It didn’t. It landed in the front row of wheelchair users who then ripped it apart. The subsequent media outrage portrayed him as ripping the chicken’s head off and drinking its blood. Frank Zappa called and Cooper denied doing it. Zappa told him never to admit he didn’t do it, and so Alice Cooper was born.
