The Kings of early punk rock, every member of this iconic band took the surname “Ramone”, although none of them were biologically related. They were inspired by Paul McCartney of the Beatles, who would check into hotels as “Paul Ramon”. The Ramones recorded their debut album, Ramones, in February 1976. Of the fourteen songs on the album, the longest, “I Don’t Wanna Go Down to the Basement”, barely surpassed two and a half minutes. They were the epitome of punk, hard and fast. The Ramones toured almost nonstop for 22 years, playing a total of 2263 concerts. Though they never achieved anything resembling chart success the band were rated at number 23 in Rolling Stone magazine’s ‘100 Greatest Artists of All Time’, and ranked 2nd by Spin magazine. The Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002, and in 2011 were awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
