A rare image of the “American Kings of Thrash” Slayer in their original line up. Tom Araya, Lombardo, Jeff Hanneman, and Kerry King formed Slayer as a covers band in Huntingdon Park, California, in 1981. Their fast aggressive style saw them become one of the Four Kings of Thrash alongside Metallica, Megadeath, and Anthrax. Slayer released 12 studio albums and won 5 Grammy award nominations. Their 1986 album ‘Reign in Blood’ is considered the record which set the bar for death metal, hailed as the’ heaviest album of all time’ by Kerrang!, a ‘genre definer’ by Stylus, and a ‘stone cold classic’ by AllMusic.
