The two faces that define Guns N’ Roses. The band was born when the manager of Axel’s previous band, Hollywood Rose, fired him. His bandmate Izzy Stradlin was living with LA Guns guitarist Tracii Guns. They decided to form a new band taking the surnames from each – and Guns N’ Roses were born. Guns left and Slash joined. The band were offered $150,000 to sign with Chrysalis records who wanted to change their image and sound. David Geffen offered them $75,000 and full artistic control. They went with Geffen and their first album ‘Appetite for Destruction’ contained three massive hit singles, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, ‘Paradise City’, and ‘Sweet Child o’ Mine’. The album hit number 1 on the Billboard 100 and was the best selling debut album in history Despite all their success Slash and Axel are also known for the 20 year feud that existed between them. Thankfully that seems to be behind them and they are due to tour again in 2021.
